File this makeup trend under something that shouldn’t work, but it does. Meet the glossy lid.
Here’s what I find confusing: I’ve only known since eye makeup 101 that you always apply eyeshadow primer to prevent… exactly what I’m wearing now… glossy lids. I probably didn’t need this YSL Eye Gloss Smudger since my lids could produce enough oil to fill your gas tank, but I just needed to try this trend for myself. So with that, here’s how to pull off glossy lids.
As if I need more beauty products. But when the Sephora VIB event is announced… I’m ready with an open heart. And wallet. This go-around, I tried to limit my cart to just a few items, so I’m dishing on my latest splurges. Have you tried any of these?
YSL Volupte Tint-In-Oil in #5 Cherry My Cherie—I’ve had this on my wish list for quite some time and was waiting for an opportunity to scoop this up on a discount. Having tried some other lip products from YSL, I’ve always like the lip applicator. Regardless of staying power, I’m hoping this shade will give me a perfect pink gloss.
I thought I would try something different this week with my Ask Kara series. Instead of writing out my responses to your beauty questions, I decided to do a video. You’ll also notice a cameo by my Persian kitty. He loves to knock over my beauty products. This week I tackle three common questions: How often should you use your Clarisonic (or any deep cleansing brush)? How do you prevent your makeup from melting in the D.C. heat and what are your melt-proof makeup picks? How can you minimize your pores? Thanks to everyone that tweeted me their beauty questions! If you have a question for me or need product recommendations, feel free to leave a comment below!

When it comes to my summer beauty routine, I like to keep things low-key but fresh and glow-y. I love indulging in a few luxe makeup products each season and my new YSL Baby Doll Kiss & Blush is the perfect way to splurge. This air-whipped, two-in-one formula highlights your best assets with a matte finish. Cream based blushes last so much longer than powder formulas too. In this post I’m wearing Fuchsia Desinvolte which I promise, is not as intense as it looks. Just swirl the applicator on the apples of your cheeks and blend quickly. If you’re looking for high impact lip color, dab the applicator and if you want a sheer finish, swipe a thin layer on your lips for a pretty pout.
