New York Fashion Week is in full swing and the beauty looks this season are some of the boldest I’ve seen recently. Here are a few of my favorites.
Tibi is one of my favorite designers and I love their understated, simple vibes. The one painted nail in various colors – red, orange, blue and pale yellow – is an ode to effortlessly cool. Goodbye nail art, hello it girl chic.
You know that messy top knot you’ve been sporting at the gym and on the weekends? Well, that’s the new beauty trend for spring 2015. Paul Hanlon, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Stylist for TRESemmé was the mastermind behind this hairstyle at the spring/summer Phillip Lim show. The ‘do was inspired by a cross between Stephen Klein’s 1990 photography and the romanticism of the Pre-Raphaelites, but with a punk edge. It’s a simple, organic and youthful look according to Hanlon. You would think this would be an easy tutorial considering how disheveled it looks but this tutorial is a bit more complex. Here’s how to get the look:
Prep the hair by applying TRESemmé Climate Control Mousse through the hairline and mid-lengths to add volume and give it hold without soaking the hair.
Rough dry with the TRESemmé Salon Professional Volume Blow Dryer and then use a soft bristle brush to pull out and straighten the hair around the hairline.
Use TRESemmé Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo on the roots of the hair to create a matte and moldable texture and then moving around the hair line, comb back fine sections of the lengths and lightly spray with the TRESemmé Climate Control Finishing Spray to define and hold.
Pull the hair into a ponytail at the crown of the head and secure with a hair tie. Divide the lengths into two sections and then knot (as you would your shoe laces), twice or three times depending on the length of the hair, secure with pins and leave the ends to stick out for a “punkier” look.
Finally, pull out strands around the sides and back of the hairline and finish with a spritz of TRESemmé Climate Control Finishing Spray.
How do you feel about not taming your flyaways? Would you sport this hairstyle on the street?
On Monday we talked about pale blue nails and yesterday I shared my new affection for texturized ponytails. Today, I’m sharing with you my favorite makeup look from the spring/summer Rebecca Minkoff show. Stila always kills it with its romantic beauty looks. Sarah Lucero, Stila Cosmetics’ Global Director of Creative Artistry, wanted to complement the “bohemian pastels and gauzy romanticism of Rebecca’s collection.” Lucero focused on petal pink hues and softly illuminated skin with an unexpected sheen. If you haven’t already noticed from my beauty trend coverage, I have a thing for low-maintenance makeup routines. This trend totally fits the bill.
Backstage beauty tip: Lucero used an all over shimmer powder in Kitten (a best-selling Stila shade) to create a soft, dewy glow. Lucero recommends lightly dusting the warmer shade on the apples of your cheeks, and the lighter hue above your cheekbones.
What’s your take on this look? Would you try this at home?
I’m sharing another favorite beauty look I spotted at Fashion Week. Ladies, take note: it’s all about embracing our hair’s natural texture, regardless of how you style it. Paul Hanlon, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Stylist for TRESemmé, created a look as if “she might have just stepped out of the gym.” Needless to say, I can get down with that. I rarely have time to polish my hair during the week and recently I received a few compliments when I wear my hair in a ponytail in the office. The Prabal Gurung spring/summer 2014 collection was inspired by strong, athletic and modern women and the structure of the ponytail is equal parts sporty and chic.
Here’s how you can get the look:
Apply TRESemmé Extra Firm Control Mousse to the roots, section by section, ensuring full coverage by working upwards from the nape of the neck up to the parting.
Comb through the wide tooth comb to create separation between the hair and run your fingers to accentuate the texture further. Leave mousse to dry naturally rather than use a hair dryer to give extra hold and layers to the look.
Pull the hair back tightly from the sides of the head and down to create a low ponytail at the nape of the neck. Secure tightly with an elastic.
Smooth a small amount of TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Smoothing Crème Serum onto the tail of the ponytail and twist it into a loose knot. Blast with ahair dryer to achieve natural movement in the ends.
What’s your take on the texturized ponytail? Sound off in the comments below!
This is the first time not attending New York Fashion Week in about four years. While it’s always been a privilege to go, I had some commitments at home. It is kind of nice to be taking it all in from the comfort of my recliner. Backstage beauty recaps have been invading my inbox and I’m excited to share a few of my favorite looks. The pale blue nails at Costello Tagliapietra caught my eye immediately. While I have an appreciation for one-of-a-kind nail art, I prefer simple monochrome nail looks. It’s timeless, effortless and chic. Julie Kandalec for Essie layered Bikini So Teeny and Limo-Scene for a romantic and nostalgic look for the designer’s collection inspired by cinematic photography of the 1980s. Like I said, it’s nothing crazy but it’s totally attainable and easy to recreate at home. What do you think?
Here’s how you can get this easy look for your digits:
Apply Ridge Filling Base Coat to clean, filed nails.
Once the base coat dries, apply two coats of Bikini So Teeny.
Next, apply one heavy coat of Limo-Scene (expert tip: applying a single, heavier coat of polish will help eliminate streaking).
