Forget fall foliage, cooler weather or Pumpkin Spice Lattes… what sparks my excitement for fall is bold nail color. OPI just released its new Washington DC Nail Polish Collection (in partnership with actress and activist Kerry Washington) and I’m in love with very single shade. From crimson reds to earthy browns and lush greens, this 15-piece palette perfectly reflects DC at its finest. There are two shades that are at the top of my wish list: We the Female (empowering garnet) and Kerry Blossom (a pretty plum). If you prefer DIY manicures at home, swipe a matte top coat finish for a twist on these sophisticated colors. OPI Washington DC Nail Polish collection is equal parts bold and beautiful—just like the amazing city I get to call home.

What color polish do you want to try from the collection?
It’s time to ditch your collection of dark polishes and opt-in for brighter, pretty pastel polish. Right now I’m obsessed with Deborah Lippmann Spring Reveries collection, which pays homage to an ethereal and poetic spring season. Once again, DL is killin’ it this season. This is my favorite luxe nail polish line thanks to its sweet colors and even sweeter application. I’m wearing Flowers in Her Hair, a creamy mint medley, that looks just as good on my nails as it does in the bottle. Tip Toe Through The Tulips is next to try on my mani calendar, a perennial pale peach but let’s get real: I want to scoop up this entire collection. Which one is your favorite?
Recently I’ve been going on these mini Butter London nail polish hauls at Ulta. Last weekend I purchased Muggins (pictured above) and Disco Biscuit (a pretty sparkly hot pink). For Valentine’s Day I decided on this pale gray/lilac shade that’s sophisticated and doesn’t scream Valentine’s Day because I’m probably going to be wearing red or pink. What I really like about this brand of nail polish is that it’s easy to apply (the brush is thin) so application is more precise and it’s easy to remove (seriously, just two botton balls moderately soaked in any drugstore nail polish remover works). As long as you apply a base and top coat (if you’re lazy like me, I like Essie All in One base and top coat), this look will last a solid five days.
What are you going to wear on your nails for Valentine’s Day?
Yesterday I did something I haven’t done in quite some time. I got a manicure. I know what you’re thinking, but I usually do my own nails at home. It saves me time and money. But I *cringe* every time I have to file my nails. Somehow it’s manageable at the nail salon, not so much when I do it.
I opted for Essie’s For The Twill of It and was pretty happy with the results. It’s a rich maple brown (except you wouldn’t think so looking at it) with a reflective olive green shimmer. When I got home, I went on a nail polish internet binge—looking for any and all polishes like this one. This metallic/chrome/reflective polish is like the new neutral.
Here are more chrome nail polish hues you should totally get on board with:
Sure, I like to pin pretty nail art but when it comes to my schedule, I rarely have time for DIY nail projects. Last week I took a risk and surprisingly my *subtle* nail art looked pretty darn good if I say so myself. I applied two coats of OPI polish in “Man Repeller” (courtesy of BrandlinkDC) for a pinkish/nude base. I don’t have time for tooth picks and paint brushes so I decided to wing it and try gold tips with Deborah Lippmann in “Fake It Til You Make It.” It was obviously much harder swiping the brush on my right hand compared to my left but somehow it worked. Now that I’ve conquered a twist on french tips, maybe it’s time to move on to the next level. What mani are you wearing today?
