I heavily rely on the best moisturizing lip balms during the cold winter months. Usually insufferable chapped lips hit me in January when it’s really really cold but I’ve been sick this week and I find myself frequently reaching for some to keep my lips nice and soft.
I’m a tough critic when it comes to lip balms. First and foremost, they need to be moisturizing for a solid few hours (at least), they need to feel good on my lips (I hate that sticky, smothering feeling), and it’d be nice if they eliminate lip lines. Bonus points if I can get that Victoria’s Secret model pout. Hey a girl can dream right?!
I’m a firm believer that you’re never fully dressed without a swipe of lip color. My current lip wardrobe is rich in liquid lipsticks (likw Jouer and Kylie Cosmetics) and lip gloss (like Buxom and Bobbi Brown) but for those hot and humid summer days, I’m all about sheer lip color. As much as I love a rich pop of color, I don’t always want to dedicate the time to priming my lips and setting them with powder for a long-wear finish (because you know how messy that can get). For those days when I don’t want to wear heavy lip, Clinique Pop Glaze Sheer Lip Color + Primer is the perfect solution for a popsicle-stained pout. It’s equal parts moisturizing and non-drying and has just the right amount of sheer color. It’s a tinted balm, so don’t expect not to have to reapply throughout the day. There’s no question though—I’m keeping Fireball Pop and Sprinkle Pop in my Rebecca Minkoff crossbody all summer long.
My lips have been suffering for almost a week. Nothing is worse than getting sick and dealing with dry, chapped lips and struggling to keep them moisturized 24/7. I’ve been alternating between different lip treatments, depending on the time of day, my mood and well, my lips. Here are my four winter lip balms I’ve been rotating ’round the clock:
Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment. As much as I love those tinted pops of color, there’s nothing wrong with going back to basics. This is currently stashed in a drawer in my cube at work.
Aquaphor Lip Repair. I’ve been using this drugstore staple religiously at night. You only need to apply once before you go to sleep and you’re set for the whole night.
Aerin Rose Lip Conditioner. I’ve had this in my side pocket of my purse for so long now, there’s purse dirt all over it. I don’t care though, I love this luxe lip conditioner. The rose scent reminds me of my Yiayia. It also boasts just the slightest rose tint to enhance any pout.
The Body Shop Shea Lip Butter. I also keep this at my bed side but I especially love this for its mildly sweet scent (and it’s only $6!!)
Do you have a favorite lip balm you use when you’re getting over a cold? I’d love to hear your recommendations!
