I’m really lazy when it comes to my eye makeup (and lately, blogging, but we’ll save that for another day). I prefer to tell people it’s my ‘no makeup makeup look,” but let’s be real. I’m totally taking embracing a lazy girl makeup routine. When I’m getting ready for work I opt for a one-step eyeshadow, a couple coats of mascara, tinted moisturizer and a cream blush. Want to know the secret to my five-minute look? I’ve been reaching for Mally Beauty Evercolor Shadow Sticks, a primer shadow base and eye shadow in one quick and easy application. I like to pack the shadow directly from the stick on my lid and blend with a fluffy shadow brush. Paired with primer or no primer, I find that this creamy shadow really lasts all day. I’ve got Plum and Smokey Quartz (discontinued) in my makeup arsenal but I want them all!
I’d love to know, do you have a lazy girl makeup routine? If so, what’s your secret?
P.S. Right now at Ulta, you can scoop up Open Up Eyeliner in Black with any $40 Mally Beauty purchase through the end of the month.
Do you contour? I love the idea of contouring—it helps slim, shape and accentuates your best features, but for some reason it’s always been a daunting application for me. While I’ve seen a bevy of videos on YouTube offering step-by-step guidance, it looks complicated and time consuming. But I’m here to report some good news for those who need a shortcut to contouring like a pro. Enter Clinique Chubby Stick Sculpting Highlight& Contour.
Neiman Marcus sent me the Clinique Chubby Stick Sculpting Highlight in my April beauty box but after doing a little research, I feel like I couldn’t try one without the other—The Chubby Stick Sculpting Contour that is. The oil-free Sculpting Contour works well for slimming and shaping your nose, defining the jawline and lifting the neck. The Chubby Stick Sculpting Highlight helps accentuate your best features by illuminating your complexion with light-reflecting optics. After practicing my highlight and contour routine a few times, I’ve learned that blending, blending (and more blending) is the key to pulling off this look. This formula also pairs well for bare skin or foundation. The reviews don’t mention anything about not using with tinted moisturizers but I’ve been wearing it on top of my bareMinerals Complexion Rescue and haven’t had any issues. I can honestly say these Chubby Sticks have been so easy to use, especially for a contouring beginner like myself. Rather than try and give you step-by-step instructions, I highly recommend you check out this quick cheat sheetand say, hello cheekbones!
There are those weeks, you know, between your brow threading/waxing/shaping appointments where your brows are almost ready for a clean-up… but not quite. Brow shaping at home is easy… if you know what you’re doing. Consider this the lazy girl’s guide on how to shape eyebrows at home. Some of these tips may be unconventional but I’ve found this is what works best for me (and my lazy beauty habits).
First, don’t use a magnifying mirror. Super close-ups of your brows may lead you to over-plucking. This may sound crazy but I actually prefer plucking my brows in my car. It’s the natural lighting I tell ya. If plucking brows in your car isn’t your thing, use a mirror in a well-lit room in your house.
Ditch the pencil trick when it comes to determining your ideal shape and use Anastasia Beverly Hills “The Golden Ratio” technique. Instead of trying to measure the angle of your brows, these stencils shows you your ideal shape by allowing most of your natural brow hair through the cut out without leaving too much skin exposed. Then you’ll know to only remove the hairs that fall above or below your stencil. I use these stencils all the time and it saves me so much time and anxiety as opposed to holding up a pencil and measuring.
With a spoolie brush, brush eyebrow hairs upward. Trim any tiny hairs that are longer than usual.
If you have a low threshold for pain, I highly suggest tweezing after you shower and AFTER your period is over. Tweezing can be painful right before Aunt Dot comes to visit and tweezing post-shower opens up follicles so it’s easier to remove unwanted strays. Also, make sure you grab the right kind of tweezers. Sharp, slanted tweezers will grab those stray hairs and won’t pinch your skin.
Fill in sparse spots with a pencil, tinted fiber gel or powder. Set your refreshed brows with a clear gel. This will also prevent smudging. You can check out my post on my favorite brow tools and products here for recommendations.
Let’s get real- who actually wakes up as soon as their alarm goes off in the morning… much less on a Friday? I hit my snooze button three times before I find the motivation to get out of bed (usually my motivation is that latest beauty product to show up on my doorstep). I’ll admit though, my beauty routine lately has been minimalist. Personally, I love to troll the web for cool beauty tutorials but more often than not, those tutorials are time consuming (and usually takes some practice). Which brings me to my latest light bulb idea for the blog, a new series dedicated to lazy beauty Friday mornings. When I’m not in the mood for a link love edition, I’ll be sharing with you my favorite tutorials (both my own and others) that you can achieve in three minutes or less. Yes, three minutes! Equal parts challenging and exciting for myself.
My daily beauty look is never complete with a cheeky glow, so naturally, I wanted to share with all my pretty readers, this easy tutorial, courtesy of NARS and achievable in three minutes or less.
NARS recently just launched two limited edition blush palettes ($41), exclusively at Sephora; Soulshine (a peachy pink with gold shimmer and sheer golden apricot) and Realm of The Senses (a flirty, sheer peach, shimmering bronzed rose and sparkling gold sand). Both palettes offer a sweet silky-textured formula that blends evenly for a smooth finish. AND, on September 1st, you can scoop up two more blush palettes ($49, photos below!) by NARS in Adult Content (combines four shades of Zen, Miss Liberty, Deep Throat, and Desire) and Killing Me Softly (combines another four favorite shades of Gilda, Albatross, Orgasm, and Outlaw).
