Ouai Finishing Crème
I first fell in love with Ouai (a line of luxe haircare products by celebrity stylist Jen Atkin) when I got my hands on its Wave Spray. And now, I’m equally obsessed with Ouai Finishing Crème, a lightweight hair cream that protects from heat styling, smooths dry ends and gives fine to medium hair that lived-in look. The scent is not overbearing (at first I smell melted butter and then as time goes on, a light floral scent… but if you read the reviews, you’ll see other comparisons) and does its job in maintaining smoothing flyaways and giving strands a piece-y second day hair look. I’ve been using my flat iron a little too often this summer (lately I’ve been obsessed with smooth and sleek hair) and yet this is the only product I’ve relied on because of its staying power. Just know that a little goes a long way—a dime-sized amount applied to ends gives a lived-in look with just a little bit of shine. The line itself is pretty pricey but if you’re using heat styling products on a frequent basis or constantly battling flyaways, then Ouai Finishing Creme is worth every penny.

The Best (& Worst) Hair Masks
Earlier this month I tested five, very different, hair masks for a retailer blog. I’ve had a love/hate relationship with my hair products. Sometimes, my hair feels luscious and soft after I wash it and other days it feels sticky and weighed down. I couldn’t take it anymore—so I happily jumped on board to treat my tresses in hopes I could find a new product to help bring my hair back to life again.
Out of the five I tested, there were two that easily climbed to the top of my list. Both managed to give me smooth and sleek hair in just a few applications. And both are reasonably priced too. As spring weather creeps in, it’s so important to get your hair in tip top shape, which is why I highly recommend adding a mask to your hair routine. Whether you have color-treated, dry, or damaged hair (or maybe you just desperately need a spring awakening), this is the best kind of indulgence. And in case you’re wondering, yes, I tested some not-so-great masks as well.

Get the look: Romantic Messy Top Knot
How beautiful is this romantic messy top knot? I rarely follow red carpet beauty during awards season but I spent my Saturday evening watching The SAG Awards and this particular red carpet hairstyle caught my eye. I’ll be the first to admit, I’m not a big fan of updos—I mean I did wear my hair down on my wedding day. And I’m not a fan of posting celebrity beauty looks on the blog, but I love the carefree, undone look. And I’m posting this because it’s versatile and can be worn for just about any occasion—whether it’s part of your casual Friday work ensemble or date night.
Celebrity hairstylist Adir Abergel created Saoirse Ronan’s top knot and here’s how you can get the romantic messy top knot at home:
- Apply John Frieda Luxurious Volume Perfectly Full Mousse all over the roots through mid-shaft on towel dried hair.
- Blow dry hair using a large round brush to create soft voluminous blowout.
- Use a 1.25” curling iron on large sections of hair to create random waves and texture.
- Next, take a comb and tease the roots of the hair and pull it loosely into a top ponytail leaving some height around the front.
- Back comb the ponytail prior to wrapping it around in a big deconstructed bun and pinning it in place.
- Spritz John Frieda Luxurious Volume Forever Full Hairspray to keep hair in place.
- Leave some pieces around the hairline for a whimsical and romantic effect.
