Every October, beauty brands pay homage to National Breast Cancer Awareness Month with limited edition products that help support breast cancer charities and organizations across the country. From pretty in pink polishes to must-have hair tools, I rounded up ten ways to support the cause (and your beauty supply) on Glitter Guide. Check out my favorite BCA beauty buys!
Happy Earth Day, my pretties! When I began my hunt for eco-friendly beauty products, I was pleasantly surprised with the overwhelming amount of brands out there that do more than just good for our beauty routines, but good for the environment. From all natural ingredients to recyclable packaging, check out my favorite eco-friendly beauty products for Earth Day.
Caudalie Premier Cru The Eye Cream ($98)—Whether you’re in your late 20s or early 50s, this highly concentrated eye cream fades dark circles and eliminates puffiness all while renewing youthful skin. Pricey, I know, but worth every penny (and 1 percent of profits from all Premier Cru products purchased will be donated to 1% For the Planet movement).
Urban Decay Good Karma Brushes ($20-$39)—Seriously, where were these brushes when I did my “best of” picks? These super-soft brushes are made from recycled PET bottles and the handles are made from recycled aluminum. Not only do these high quality brushes do your makeup justice, but they’re also vegan and cruelty free.
Bond No. 9 I Love New York for Earth Day ($105-$175)—Celebrating the big apple’s environmental smarts, Bond No. 9 puts a fresh new spin its packaging with their popular scent (I’m particular to its cirtrus meets floral fragrance). A percentage of proceeds will be donated toward the State of New York’s “green” initiatives (think park cleanups, preservation programs, etc.).
Alanis Morrisette Limited Edition Ultra Facial Cream (46.50)—“I got one hand in my pocket and the other one is…” applying my long-time skincare staple, Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream. To celebrate Earth Day, Kiehl’s teamed up with singer/songwriter Alanis Morrisette to design this limited edition label art series. 100 percent of all net profits will benefit Recycle Across America.
Covergirl NatureLuxe Mousse Mascara ($10)—Swapping out synthetics for more au natural ingredients, I’m a fan of this light-weight mascara that still packs twice the amount of volume, not to mention is easy to remove at night.
Avalon Organics Lavender Nourishing Shampoo and Conditioner ($10.50)—While all Avalon Organics products are formulated with science-based nutrients and natural botanicals, the results are nothing short of clean, strong and healthy.
BITE Beauty Lush Lip Tint ($24)—When my lips are dry, just one swipe of BITE’s luscious lip tints, made with pure argan oil, vitamin E and fruit butters, cure my cracked lip woes.
In light of Veterans Day yesterday, I wanted to highlight a great skincare program with an even greater cause. Washingtonian Sara Damelio, founder of Skincando and creator of Combat-Ready Balm, has been donating care packages to the U.S. troops overseas since 2005. A multi-tasking cream, Combat-Ready Balm soothes sand flea bites, sunburn and dry skin for troops overseas. Also available in a lip balm, bug repellant and bar of soap, these gifts ($4.25-$12.50) do more than just offer immediate skin relief, it sends a sincere note of ‘thank you for serving our country.’ Donated jars are sent to a soldier in need, or a specific service member you may know, not to mention Skincando covers all shipping costs. For more information and how you can donate, click here. Here’s to our troops (and taking care of our skin)!
The next time you head to Whole Foods, swap your usual suds for a SoapBox luxury eco-bar that will not only benefit your skin but also send a relief bar to a child in need to help fight water-related illnesses, both domestically and abroad. Consider it the beauty version of the TOMS Shoes concept.
Made of food-grade olive oil, organic shea butter, and glycerin (not to mention free of any sulfates and artificial substances), SoapBox offers eight scented and unscented bars (think Lavender, Lemongrass and Orange) uniquely packaged using post-recycled materials. I religiously wash my hands with Oatmeal Clove, a warm cinnamon-y signature scent that reminds me of the fall and winter season.
I love that SoapBox Soaps is also active in the local community. The company partners with ThriveDC, the DC-based homeless shelter that offers emergency assistance, education and employment preparation.
SoapBox Soaps, $17.97 for a 3-pack, $33.97 for a 6-pack; available at Whole Foods & Soapboxsoaps.com
Packing up my full-size skincare regime for my summer travels is always daunting. Lucky for me, Kiehl’s Limited Edition Active Lifestyle Essentials Kit ($74) is the perfect deluxe sampler that holds all my skincare necessities and more. This kit is like a little bag filled with my favorite skincare treasures that answer all my beauty woes on-the-go. The kit includes its luxe Ultra Facial Cream (I always wear this under my tinted moisturizer), Cross-Terrain UV Face Protector SPF 50 (a must-have that I can pop in my handbag), Facial Fuel Eye De-Puffer, as well as staples like the Midnight Recovery Concentrate, Ultimate Strength Hand Salve, Crème de Corps and their latest concoction—Kiehl’s Eucalyptus Lip Relief. Aside this being a must-have for myself and Kiehl’s lovers alike, 100 percent of net profits from this kit will benefit amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research.
