Last week’s post on DIY hair tips and tricks I found on Pinterest was so popular, I decided to bring it back this week. Today’s edition is DIY skincare treatments and all of these tutorials popped up on my Pinterest news feed within a few days of each other. From a soothing strawberry hand treatment to a chocolate face mask, I’ve rounded up five DIY skincare treatments that will give you soft, glowing skin (and possibly make you salivate).
1. Nothing makes me cringe more than extremely dry, cracked hands. I tried this strawberry hand treatment the other night and was pleasantly surprised with the results.
2. Parsley on your eyes? Yup, we just went there. This DIY parsley eye mask treatment will apparently make those dark circles vanish instantly.
3. My eco-friendly and vegan beauty junkies will love this au natural lip scrub. I like to exfoliate my lips once or twice a week.
4. Ever since my cousin told me about all the amazing benefits of dry brushing, I’ve been hooked. According to this easy guide by The Beauty Department, if you brush every day you CAN get rid of cellulite.
5. In general, women gravitate toward chocolate after a break up but did you know it’s also a go-to after a bad day? Its scent is a natural mood booster, not to mention this DIY chocolate face mask is packed with antioxidants and exfoliating properties for an amazing (and delicious) skincare treatment.
I grew up using Vaseline Jelly for multiple treatments. First, it’s a great healing hand and foot treatment. When I have extremely dry, cracked hands, I coat them in Vaseline Jelly Original and let it soak in a pair of gloves overnight. When I’m sick with a cold, Vaseline helps vanish any flaky, dry skin on my nose. And let’s not forget it also helps protect minor cuts, scrapes and burns. Vaseline Jelly deeply moisturizes to heal dry skin and lock in moisture (it penetrates surface skin to create an intercellular occlusive barrier). I rely on Vaseline Jelly year round, but most of all during dry cold winter seasons (like the severe cold weather we’ve been dealing with now). So it’s no surprise this post is an ode to Vaseline Jelly and all it’s moisturizing goodness.
Recently, Vaseline Jelly sent me the ultimate Healing Kit, featuring a bevy of beauty products and tools I could use with Vaseline along with a list of DIY treatment ideas. I recreated one of those recipes and today, I’m sharing with you an easy healing DIY body scrub featuring the drugstore staple. This healing body scrub recipe is an easy at-home DIY treatment that’s equal parts moisturizing and exfoliating that will slough off dead skin but still leave your skin feeling hydrated.
1. Mix 2 tablespoons of Vaseline Jelly with 1 tablespoon of sea salt to create a scrub.
2. Apply to legs and rub in a circular motion to buff skin gently and help get rid of dry skin.
3. Rinse scrub off with warm water.
4. Apply a thin layer of Vaseline Jelly, which moisturizes to heal dry skin.
How do you like to use your Vaseline Jelly?

OK, so I have to admit, I’m a little ADD. In my book, Facebook and Twitter is strictly business these days and Pinterest is the distraction. Lucky for me, it’s part of my blogging job. Call it a PIN-spiration party, if you will. I’m seriously loving these DIY beauty ideas, pretty hairstyles, creative eyeliner tutorials and other random beauty posts. Disclaimer: I have a slight obsession with The Beauty Department’s bevy of cool beauty ideas and tutorials. Happy Friday!
We all have different skin types, and while that can make choosing the right beauty product for your skin a little difficult, there seems to be a natural solution for just about any skin condition thanks to Mother Nature herself, that sassy little vixen. My love for DIY beauty masks has gotten a little out of control and I’ve tried creating different masks from just about anything I can find in my fridge. Some of them have not gone so well, but others, well, they were so good I had to write a post about them so you pretty peeps could embrace your inner DIY diva as well. And what’s even better about these masks is they taste amazing…not that I taste-test my face masks. Okay, I do. Let the tasting, er, DIY’ing begin!
The Anti-Aging Avocado Mask
What you’ll need:
1 avocado, mashed
1 carrot, cooked and then mashed
1/2 cup of heavy cream
1 egg, beaten well
3 tablespoons of pure honey
Once you have got all your ingredients mixed and mashed up in a bowl, simply apply it evenly to your face and let it sit for 10-15 minutes before rinsing off with warm water.
What it does: Thanks to the vitamins and antioxidants found in avocados, the beta-carotene in carrots, and the protein in the cream, this mask will help to moisturize your skin, promote collagen production, even out your skin tone, improve your skin texture, and cause any age spots you may have to fade away. Not bad for a mask that costs under $2 to make!
The Acne Attacker
Ah acne, it can be such a pain in my…skin? Well, you know what I mean.
What You’ll Need:
1/4 cup of mashed strawberries (After I have eaten a few)
1/4 cup of plain yogurt
Mix the strawberries and yogurt until you have created a paste and spread it on your face. Let it soak for 15 minutes before rinsing with cool water and patting dry.
What it does: While there are some amazing acne solutions out there, many of them are so laden with chemicals that they can actually do more harm than good. Not only does this mask taste amazing but the strawberries are a powerful, and natural, anti-acne treatment thanks their salicylic acid content, a common ingredient found in the over-the-counter treatments many of us buy. The bonus? Not only are you effectively treating your acne but you are doing it in a natural way that won’t ravage your skin with a bunch of synthetic chemicals.
A Moisturizing Mask
I just had to save the best for last, and it’s not because I tend to eat half of this mask before actually getting it on my face, but because of how it makes my skin feel after washing it off. If you are similar to me and suffer from dry skin, especially during the cooler months, then this mask is straight up calling your name.
What You’ll Need:
1/2 of an avocado
1/2 a banana
1 teaspoon of honey
Mash ingredients into a paste and spread evenly on your face and let it sit for 20 minutes before rinsing off with cool water.
What it does: What’s great about this mask is not only is your skin being infused with loads of minerals, vitamins A and B, and antioxidant rich vitamin E, but it is also being nourished with healthy fats that will leave your skin with a youthful, radiant glow. Take into account the anti-inflammatory and humectant properties of honey and you have created yourself a tasty moisturizing mask that will help to hydrate your skin, keep it soft, and protect it against the damaging effects of dry weather.
