A while back I posted a link love via Refinery29 about the secret to those J.Crew catalog models’ pretty glow. Last week I was at J.Crew and stumbled upon the cult favorite: RMS Living Luminizer. The price point is a steep $38 but for some reason the cost doesn’t scare me as much as regular priced clothing at J.Crew (I only shop their sales). I love a good luminizer (NARS and Buxom are incorporated in to my daily beauty routine) but I have to admit, I can’t get enough of this ultra sheer illuminator. It has a satin-pearl finish, which is sweet and subtle, nor is it sticky, greasy or glittery (some illuminators will make me break out but not this one!). I like to swirl the formula using my ring finger and blend it on my cheek bones, brow line and cupid’s bow (you know, the usual hot spots). And for all my eco-friendly beauty junkies, you’ll love this organic formula containing coconut oil, castor seed oil and Rosemary extract. This can also be layered with RMS’ Lip2Cheek for some color (guess that’s next on my to-buy list). So did this once under-the-radar product live up to my expectations? Yes, yes it did.
With frequent early morning wake-up calls (mostly by my alarm, sometimes by my cat), it’s not always easy to pull off a well-rested look without a full night’s sleep. Since I’ve moved in to my new apartment, my makeup stash has been a complete disaster. On the bright side, I re-discovered some old favorites that I forgot about, like my bareMinerals Well-Rested Face & Eye Brightener. Just a one or two clicks of this sheer mineral formula illuminates my ultra dull complexion. You can layer it over or under makeup (I prefer to wear it on top of makeup). The clear pen is supposed to even skin tone and visibly minimize dark spots, wrinkles, lines and discolorations over time. I haven’t seen those results… yet. But out of all the illuminators in my makeup arsenal, this one has been my go-to all week for brighter mornings.
The perks of applying makeup in the winter? Glossing your face with highlighter and knowing that it won’t melt down your face like it does in the hot summer months (been there, done that). So it’s no surprise that this post is dedicated to all you illuminating lovers out there. I’ve rounded up my tried and true luminizers (from an extremely affordable $1 pick to can’t-live-without high-end goodies) that are perfect for a night out on the town or for on-the-go appearances. I find that shades of pearly pinks is universally flattering on almost any skin tone. For the ultimate winter glow, make sure you apply moisturizer prior to highlighter to prevent flaky or dry skin. Blend around the temples, top of cheek bones, bridge of nose and cupid’s bow (the outline of your upper lip) for a sweet and dewy finish.
