Spa Getaway: Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Resort

I’m not going to lie, I’m still in vacation mode (and in a serious work rut), but that’s probably because I can’t stop thinking about my amazing vacation last week on the other side of the Bay Bridge.

Before my boyfriend and I arrived in Ocean City, we stopped over in Cambridge for a night at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa and Marina, a four-diamond resort that sits comfortably on 342 acres along the Choptank River. For a destination less than two hours from the District, I felt like I was thousands of miles away from home… and I loved every minute of it.

By far this has been one of the most luxurious getaways I have ever been on. The resort is huge— the amenities and features there cannot be explored in just one day (I would know because, sadly, we could only stay one night!). The resort boasts 400 rooms and suites, five dining options, multi-level indoor and outdoor swimming pools, event space, a fitness facility, an 18-hole River Marsh Golf Course, and my personal favorite—a newly renovated and re-branded 18,000 square-foot spa.

My boyfriend and I splurged on room service upon arrival. No better way to kick off our vacation than with a glass of wine, two coronas for him and a slice of cheesecake. I set my phone for an early wake up call for my Spring Rejuvenation Ritual spa treatment at the Hyatt’s Sago Spa & Salon and I guess I must’ve been really excited, because I actually woke up 30 minutes earlier than my alarm. The newly renovated spa boasts “life, vitality and nourishment,” in its treatments, decor atmosphere, paying homage of course to its Eastern Shore setting.

I experienced by first spa treatment the following morning—the Spring Rejuvenation Ritual, a full body scrub, wrap, scalp and foot massage. I’ve had my fair share of facials and massages so I thought I’d try something new. Spa aesthetician and relaxation connoisseur, Caterina, was so pleasant and made my spa treatment so enjoyable. The treatment itself was really cool and unlike any body scrub I had experienced before. I was lying in what seemed like an elevated bathtub that had a few inches of depth to it, as the aesthetician applied an exfoliating scrub. Following a full body scrub down, she turned on the Vichy shower (basically a shower head inside the room) so I didn’t have to get up or even move for that matter. Post exfoliation (I mean, it was really the most ideal treatment to get before I was sitting beach side), I moved over to a traditional massage bed to enjoy a sweet-smelling lemon sage body butter/lotion application for ultimately, some dreamy soft and silky feeling skin. The finishing touch was a much-needed foot and scalp massage that nearly put me to sleep. Post-treatment, Caterina led me back to the relaxation lounge and brought me a stick of fresh fruit (so thoughtful!). I knew my boyfriend was waiting for me back in the room, but I figured he could wait a little longer. It was the best two hours a spa goer could ask for.

Touring the resort was an attraction in itself. Between the volleyball and tennis courts, receding outdoor pool and indoor pool, all I wanted to do was change in to my bathing suit and frolic around. This experience is just something you need to dedicate a weekend to, not just one night. But that’s the good news. I know I’m going to come back again soon!
