While I’m soaking up sun on the Eastern Shore and Ocean City, Md., my DC gal pals are sharing their top-notch summer beauty tips and tricks. First up, style blogger Liz McAvoy of What Dress Code? dishes on her favorite products for curly hair.
All of you curly-haired girls out there: You know what these few months bring… that dreaded, finger-in-the-socket, frizz-ball time of year when our lovely locks are at their worst. But as I mentioned in this post, I’ve just never been one to always straighten or to over-process my strands. So to help you brave the season, here are eight product picks for styling curly hair.
Kitsch Hair Ties: My first and often only solution to those really humid days is simply to grab one of my favorite Kitsch hair ties and throw that mane up and outta the way.
Pantene Moisture Renewal Shampoo and Conditioner: My year-round go-to, this Pantene duo has perfected just the right amount of moisture without weighing down my hair.
Bumble and bumble Surf Spray: This lightweight spritz always reminds me of John Frieda’s version, which I adored through much of high school but that was discontinued, so you can imagine my excitement which Bumble and bumble developed their own fab version.
LUSH Sea Spray: I actually came across this comparable beachy-waves spritz through Kara’s review of the LUSH Beach Box— and I can’t wait to integrate an almost entirely naturally derived product into my routine.
Bumble and bumble Curl Conscious Nourishing Masque: The heat, sun, and extra time in the chlorine and saltwater in the summer mean my strands could use a little moisture pick-me-up. My go-to: this lush moisturizing masque that’s a great occasional product to rejuvenate your hair.
Aussie You Can Shine Hair Spray: This hair spray has mastered the ultimate goal of hair sprays—hold without crunchiness. That alone is enough to sell me, but the added shine boost it gives makes it my go-to for whenever I need my hair to really hold.
Goody Bobby Pins: As with the Kitsch hair ties, on those really hot days, sometimes I just need to get creative with getting my hair out of my face and off of my neck. Lacey actually did the perfect tutorial recently on styling a shorter look with lots of twisting and bobby pins.

Such an appropriate topic today, when my curls look more akin to Mufasa’s mane than anything else! I’ve been meaning to try the B&B masque — I’ll have to pick that up during my next online Sephora binge.
Also, I absolutely swear by Ouidad’s Climate Control Heat & Humidity gel. It keeps my curls soft but defined with none of the crunch I’ve encountered with other curling gels/mousses (*coffs*Miss Jessie’s*coffs*)

Long and beautiful hair has always been my dream.
