Let me just premise this post by saying, juicing isn’t pretty (I have the leftover messy kitchen and pink fingertips from the beet juice to prove it). What it does for your hair skin and nails though, is absolutely pretty. For Christmas, my boyfriend got a Breville Juice Fountain Plus. So, during our holiday vacation, I basically took on a part-time job as an assistant to my bossy Juicer-in-Chief boyfriend. Seriously, every word out of his mouth for the first 48 hours only involved names of fruits and veggies. I spent a lot of time researching delicious juice recipes and discovered one recipe that I like to refer to as beauty juice.
If you have a juicer (or have been thinking about getting one), here’s an easy, no-fuss recipe for beautiful hair, skin and nails. I recommend juicing 3-5 times a week.
2 apples quartered
1/2-1 large beet
2-3 large carrots
Preparation: Wash your fruits and veggies before juicing. Slice up the larger fruit (apples, beet and lemon) and place it in the cylinder to juice. Stir when you’re finished and add a few ice cubes to keep it chilled. Also, CHEW YOUR JUICE! Sounds weird, I know, but you need it swish it around your mouth to help digest the juice. Long story short, digestion begins in your mouth with your saliva. Otherwise you’l miss out on some key nutrients.
Why it works: Strawberries have more anti-aging vitamin C per serving than oranges. Apples fiber is a conditioning agent found in hair products that helps with managing smooth, frizz-free tresses. Lemon is a great skin astringent, works wonders for oily skin types and helps prevent breakouts. Beets help boost collagen production, prevents premature aging and helps promote hair growth. Carrots are rich in calcium and can help strengthen brittle nails.
Are you juicing? Any recipe recommendations?
